Post inspiration: a magnet. I hear you thinking I am simple. ;)
I recently opened an envelope and out slid a nice refrigerator magnet with a calendar, Realtor name, number and address along with a place to write emergency numbers.
Having thought for the last month about marketing to an ideal client who could be anywhere in the world, we collaborate virtually in a virtual world this struck me as a poor marketing tool. After more consideration I came to the conclusion that it still fits well with the realestate sales person (but maybe not much longer).
But, and I wondered, what is the Web 2.0 equivalent of the refrigerator magnet?
I am interested in what you think. Nothing comes to me.

Ah, Jim, there will always be a place in the world for 'old fashion' marketing! The answer to becoming known as an expert in your field or an authority in your niche is not an either/or, yes/no answer. It's "Yes, and..." You want what I call a "HI-5 Marketing Message." Imagine you could 'Hi-5" all your ideal prospects and clients in all your communications with them. Imagine you could deliver a message that's Heart-Inspired, Integrated, interactive, Internet and Information-based.

Jim, I think your website or blog link on someones equivalent is the analog to a refrigerator magnet. It's a great question! Good news - there's unlimited room!

What is refrigerator magnet marketing : It is giving a customer a tool ( the calendar ) that they will integrate into their life or work that when they us it, they will see your name and brand. The Web 2.0 equivalent would be a Widget that a client would put on one of their may their Web pages ( Myspace, FaceBook, LinkedIn, Second Life ) and when their Global Village comes to their page they see your name and brand next to some cool Widget that you have provided as a gift. Notice that with the refrigerator magnet the real estate agent is only marketing to you and your family. With a Widget, they would be marketing to your entire Global Village.
